This one is for all the bookish BonLook Beauties out there! When I saw Priscilla from the YouTube channel thereadables wearing our very own La Marquise frames in tortoise, I just knew I had to get her on this blog.
The very same night that I filmed her Virtual Style consultation, I went home and watched at least a dozen of her videos (oh yeah, in veritable YouTube marathon form) and I’ve been a loyal subbie to her channel ever since! Today, Priscilla will be sharing a brand new video where she reviews our free Virtual Style service, so be sure to give that a watch and vote for the style you think will suit her best!
In case you haven’t guessed yet, Priscilla shares book reviews, hauls and chit-chat on her channel. The 3 things I love most about her channel are as follows: 1) it’s a book review channel (!!!), 2) her reviews are unpretentious and down-to-earth, but still really insightful, and 3) the sheer volume and variety of books she discusses is astounding—there’s really something for every type of reader out there.
I’d tell you more, but it’s best you just meander on over to her YouTube channel yourself and start watching. Of course, that is, after you finish reading this post.
Q + A
Tara: What inspires you?
Priscilla: I’m inspired by great stories and powerful words. I come across this all the time in the books I read. As a creator, I want to share that; whether it be through video, design, or illustration.
Tara: Tell me a little about yourself.
Priscilla: I’m from Canada, and I’m a graphic designer. I’m a big homebody, so you’ll most likely find me marathoning The Lord of the Rings films, working on a video, or reading a book. When I care to venture outside, I enjoy browsing the bookstores and boutiques. I also love desserts of all kinds and caffeinated beverages.
Tara: What makes a book perfect for you?
Priscilla: Well-developed characters. For me to be fully immersed in the story, I have to connect with the characters. They don’t have to be perfect; better yet, they should be flawed. I love seeing the transformation of characters.
Tara: What are your 5 favourite things?
Priscilla: My MP3 player and headphones, Pride and Prejudice, strawberry shortcake, and fresh laundry. :)
Tara: What inspired you to start your YouTube channel?
Priscilla: Aside from reading, I love watching movies as well. So when I was in search for movie reviews I went to YouTube and came across reviewer, Chris Stuckmann. I thought his reviews were funny, entertaining, as well as helpful. What I loved about his reviews was that I able to relate with him as a fellow moviegoer. So I wanted to express and share my love for books in the same way, and meet others who enjoy reading as much as I did.
Tara: Do you have any advice for someone that might want to get into YouTubing themselves?
Priscilla: Don’t worry about the number of subscriptions or views. Don’t worry about fancy equipment or being perfect. Focus on the content, sharing what you love and expressing your thoughts. Be yourself, and have fun.
Tara: I’m sure you get asked this very frequently, but what are some of your all-time favourite books?
Priscilla: Some of my favourites include the books in A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness, Looking for Alaska by John Green, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan, 1984 by George Orwell, and of course Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I could go on and on. :)
Tara: Finally, any sneak peeks of upcoming videos for loyal/future loyal subbies?
Priscilla: I’ve been planning to do the ‘Draw My Life’ video that’s been going around the YouTube community. Also, I do a Bookshelf Tour video every year showing how much my collection has grown.
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me, Priscilla! It was truly a pleasure. As always, if you know an awesomely inspirational lady, send us an e-mail at email@example.com and let us know why she should be one of the Women We Love!
